ARCHITECTURE HISTORY & THEORY

This module introduced buildings from different historical time period such as pre-historic till the age of enlightenment and modern architecture. It also helped us to get a better understanding of the architectural theories through several architectural language as well as contextual relationships.

PROJECT 1 - Sketching Analysis

The history of architecture traces the changes in architecture through various traditions, overarching stylistic trends, and dates.  However, many historical buildings may face the risk of being demolished to make way for more contemporary buildings. Thus, by recording, documenting and analysing the buildings, we can contribute to preserve the historical evidence of the valuable historical Architecture. The findings are compiled in an A4 poster and booklet.

PROJECT 2 - Comparative Analysis Report

The greatest architectural transformation followed Merdeka, or Independence in 1957. Kuala Lumpur and other parts of Malaysia were transformed from colonial towns into parts of the new nation and Kuala Lumpur became its capital. This research project adopts document analysis methodology that involves documenting, analyzing, producing, and a critical chronological and diagrammatical interpretation of Modern Malaysian architectural history.

In a group of 8, we were required to produce an A4 sized illustrative chronology booklet (maximum of 25 pages) of Modern Malaysian Architecture that interprets the Modern Malaysian Architectural language and architecture influences to the architectural development of Malaysia in particular.
