Abstract Architecture

SEMESTER 2

Architectural Design II (ARC60308) introduces the principles and methods of analysis, abstraction, and synthesis in design thinking. The key emphasis investigates the relationship between the user and natural environment. We did some studio-based exercises, i.e. investigations of architectural spaces and construction; explorations of form and space through architectural conceptualization; and designing a small freestanding structure that meets user requirements and engages with the site context.

This module explains the construction of small to medium scale buildings. It focuses on developing an understanding of the principle of the building elements which include the substructure and superstructure and common construction materials. The manufacturing process, properties and typical uses of these materials in construction were discussed.
